Montreal-based Anishinaabe-led post-punk outfit Ribbon Skirt return with fire and focus. Today, they unveiled “Lucky8”, the first single from their upcoming EP Pensacola (out October 3 via Mint Records). Following their Polaris Prize–nominated debut Bite Down, Ribbon Skirt double down on their raw intensity with a track that surges between shoegaze haze, noise-driven distortion, and post-punk urgency.

“Lucky8” doesn’t chase clarity—it thrives in the blur. Woozy guitars and feedback-drenched vocals unravel memory and longing, circling the impossible and daring it to come back. It’s both abstract and visceral, a soundscape where distortion feels like truth.

The new EP, Pensacola, plays like an epilogue to Bite Down, capturing the heat and fallout left in its wake. Across its four tracks, the band explores survival, kinship, and spiritual reckoning, weaving together blown-out production with moments of stripped-back fragility. Songs like “Comma” and “Braids” highlight Ribbon Skirt’s ability to balance urgency with haunting restraint, while the title track leans into questions of memory and release.

Ribbon Skirt—fronted by Tashiina Buswa and guitarist Billy Riley—have quickly cemented themselves as one of the most vital new voices in post-punk. Their sound is uncompromising yet deeply human, channeling both ancestral echoes and modern noise into something fiercely their own. With Pensacola, they’re not just following up a breakthrough—they’re evolving into something even bolder.
