Cass McCombs Announces Interior Live Oak Live Tour + Releases “Missionary Bell” Video

Few artists can thread wit, tenderness, and timeless melody as deftly as Cass McCombs, and his latest era—marked by the release of Interior Live Oak and the announcement of his 2026 “Interior Live Oak Live” tour—cements him as one of the great American songwriters of the last two decades.

The new video for “Missionary Bell”, directed by Andy Madeleine, captures McCombs’ poetic fascination with weight—both physical and spiritual. The visual mixes archival footage of the Bay Area and Monterey throughout the 20th century, echoing the song’s question: “What else is as heavy as a missionary bell?” It’s an image that swings between absurdity and awe, finding beauty in curiosity and reflection—hallmarks of McCombs’ best work.

“Missionary Bell” is the soul of Interior Live Oak—what The Guardian calls “the very best of the ballads” and Pitchfork praises for its “gorgeous melodies, alert arrangements, and brilliant rhetorical mechanisms.” The album itself is a shimmering reflection on endurance, compassion, and hope, revealing an artist still evolving after twenty years of craft.
