(November 4, 2025) — Beloved Swedish-Argentine singer-songwriter José González returns with his first new song in four years, the luminous and heartfelt “Pajarito.” Out now via Mute, the single blends González’s signature acoustic intimacy with bright, whimsical melodies and lyrics sung entirely in Spanish — a love letter to growth, curiosity, and the magic of discovery.
Written with his young children in mind, “Pajarito” (which means “little bird”) flutters between innocence and introspection, evoking both the simple joys of childhood and the existential wonder of growing up.
“Now and then, I want to write songs that are timeless, simple, and carefree,” says González. “It’s about learning, exploring, and slowly discovering meaning for yourself. I wanted something that felt both personal and universal.”
He cites Simon & Garfunkel’s “59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy)” and Silvio Rodríguez’s “Río” among his inspirations — alongside the lullabies and children’s songs that have become part of his daily life.
Artwork Inspired by Swedish Folk Traditions
The “Pajarito” single cover reimagines classic Scandinavian folk motifs — inspired by allmoge art and the iconic Dala horse — reinterpreted as a “Dala bird.” The piece was painted by Hannele Fernström with design by Robert Samsonovitz, beautifully capturing the song’s blend of playfulness and cultural reverence.
A Video Born from AI Curiosity and Creativity
For the “Pajarito” music video, González teamed up with filmmaker Jonny Sanders to experiment with emerging AI video tools like Sora and VEO.
“We started prompting with ideas like ‘a little bird and its parent by the Swedish archipelago, late summer — clumsy, cute, adorable,’” González explains. “We let the models generate a playful story featuring a bullfinch — I loved its colors and character.”
The result is a gentle, surreal exploration of nature and nurture — a visual echo of the song’s tender themes.
