    “Black Room Blues”
    MASS
This trio of Southern transplants based in Brooklyn, consisting of Sarah Kinlaw, Bryan Keller, and Blaze Bateh, is a band unlike your typical New York band.  This is certainly noticeable on “Black Room Blues” is a slow-building, heavy blues ballad with the soaring vocals of Kinlaw bringing the lyrics to life.  Kinlaw has a hauntingly beautiful voice that fits the band in a completely different way.  It’s reminiscent of 60’s heavy blues bank, Vanilla Fudge, fronted by a bluesy Kim Deal.  The strange mix works really well.  This band is highly recommended.  Sometimes, they remind the listener of Rid of Me-era PJ Harvey.  Catch them if you can.
