Soulful Detroit/Nashville Pop: Cooper Anstett – “Move”

Another pop singer, but this guy can SING and WRITE.  Anymore, that seems to be a rarity.  Growing up in the suburban confines of Detroit, Anstett is influenced by his automotive industrial hometown and it’s Motown, rock and hip-hop heroes. However, it was the combined early influences of Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Amos Lee, Mason Jennings and Donovan Frankenreiter that molded his music and inspired his songwriting. Balancing the demands of playing college hockey, while being increasingly drawn to his music, became the stimulus for a series of introspective songs that would open up new career opportunities. One of those new breaks was a chance to develop his own collaborative songwriting style in Nashville.  Nashville seems to be a good home for Cooper, but, as we say in the Rust Belt, you can take the boy out of Detroit, but you can’t take Detroit out of the boy.  (This applies to Patti Smith and Iggy too: I grew up 150 miles from Detroit, so I understand the people; we are weird).  Anyway, I digress.  Cooper is a great guitarist (love that steel sound) and tremendous soulful voice.  Cooper Anstett is going to go far.
