    “In God’s House”

    The Bride

Bat for Lashes has released her new album, The Bride.  As usual, Natasha Khan’s voice takes the forefront on the first single, “In God’s House”.  Khan always sings like she is in an ecstatic trance.  If this were the Middle Ages, she would be a saint.  Her voice leads you into another world.  Throughout the years, Khan’s voice has matured.  She doesn’t sound so much like an adolescent, but instead she sounds more grown-up, like the difference between St. Joan of Arc and St. Catherine of Sweden. Her musical backup is a mix of folk and electronic, all created to give the listener an other-worldly experience, but still earthly, easier to identify with than say, Bjork’s alieness.  Often, Khan reminds me of Kate Bush.  The Bride is a definitely welcome addition to Bat For Lashes’ repertoire.
