This is an amazing song. The music box-like background complement Pearla’s child-like voice in such a wonderful way. I have been waiting for the next Kerli, and I believe I found her. Nicole Rodriguez is a singer/songwriter performing under the name Pearla. She has been compared to Alanis Morisette and Ani DiFranco, and her music hits that note of those looking for a voice in a patriarchal world. This juxtaposition of child-like vocals and adult subject matter is wonderful. In this song, Pearla grapples with a sense of self that seems lost as it continues to develop. Check this beautiful song out, and be prepared to be amazed.
