The New Broadway: No Darling – “Don’t Mess With Mae”

No Darling

“Don’t Mess With Mae”

After The Rain

No Darling is the project of LA drummer/singer Matt Oloffson. This is some of the most fun music I have heard for a long time.  Interestingly intricate, tricky but fun, No Darling makes music like no one else.  Oloffson calls it Shoegaze Vaudeville, which is a good description.  Imagine Damned Yankees! written and performed by My Bloody Valentine (which is actually a damned good idea).  That is No Darling.  I can hear Elaine Stritch sing “Don’t Mess With Mae” with The Jesus and Mary Chain doing backup.  Actually, No Darling does this so well, no one ever has to try it.  I love this sound.  No Darling is my surprise hit of this year.
