Fanny Kaplan
“Zaperto”
I had to share the new single by Moscow’s favorite no wave/post punk band, Fanny Kaplan. Taking the name of the band from Fanya Yefimovna Kaplan, the woman who shot Lenin and led to the harsh repercussions between the Bolsheviks and the Socialist Revolutionaries. The band’s music is as uncompromising as the original Kaplan was about her disillusionment with the Bolsheviks when they obtained power while not being elected. Much like Emma Goldberg, Kaplan was a strong woman. The band, Fanny Kaplan, is a group of strong women making uncompromising music. This is my new favorite band.
