With great excitement, Boston Calling Music Festival reveals acclaimed indie folk rock band The Decemberists will join its highly anticipated May 2014 lineup. When they take the Boston Calling stage on Saturday May 24, 2014, fans will be privy to the band’s first live show since August, 2011 (their last Boston show was January, 2011) and their one and only festival appearance of 2014. Boston Calling also announces that a limited number of single day tickets for Saturday and Sunday, both General Admission and VIP, will go on sale today, Thursday March 20, 2014 at 12pm EST, and shares details on its Beer Gardens, presented by Samuel Adams®, which is celebrating its 30th birthday at the festival and is based in Boston. Boston Calling takes place Memorial Day Weekend, May 23, 24 and 25, 2014 at City Hall Plaza [One City Hall Square, Boston, Massachusetts]; www.bostoncalling.com.
The Decemberists will add even more stage power to the Boston Calling lineup with their famously eclectic performances. The Portland, Oregon based group most recently received critical acclaim for their sixth studio album, The King is Dead, which was Number 1 on the U.S. album chart in 2011 and featured the hit songs “Down By the Water” and “This is Why We Fight.”
As to what to expect from the band at Boston Calling, Colin Meloy, lead singer and songwriter for The Decemberists says, “We’re working on a new record, actually! Lots of new songs kicking around and I imagine we’ll play a few of them. We have lots of great memories of playing in Boston and don’t think we’ve ever played a festival here, so we’re looking forward to it!” The group joins Boston Calling’s already stacked lineup, which was curated by Aaron Dessner of The National in collaboration with Crash Line Productions and Bowery Boston, and includes artists like Jack Johnson, Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Brand New, The Head and the Heart, Tegan and Sara, Bastille, and The Districts.
Honoring three decades of top quality brewing based right here in Boston, Samuel Adams will celebrate its 30th Anniversary this year in Boston Calling’s Beer Gardens. Guests will find the ultimate craft beer experience complete with samples of various Samuel Adams brews. Further details are forthcoming.
Additionally, in this year’s VIP experience, ticketholders will have access to City Hall Courtyard, a 25,000 square foot, second-floor Mezzanine offering prime views of the main stage and complimentary food by Hard Rock Cafe Boston.

About Boston Calling: Boston Calling is presented by JetBlue® and Samuel Adams® in partnership with Wicked Wines, Chipotle, Alltown, Ames Boston Hotel, Tasty Burger, Children’s Hospital Boston and Ticketmaster. Performances span Memorial Day Weekend, May 23, 24 and 25, 2014 and will once again take place at City Hall Plaza [One City Hall Square, Boston, Massachusetts]. Boston Calling is produced by Crash Line Productions and is Boston’s first multi-day outdoor music festival. The festival launched in 2013 with May and September editions; due to its enormous success with each, the festival has added a Friday evening to its 2014 edition. Boston Calling has earned the praise of nearly 70,000 fans between its first editions in May 2013 and September 2013. Glowing reviews from the likes of Rolling Stone and The Boston Globe noted everything from its versatile lineup to its quality of production. Perched on a hill in Downtown Boston and with the city’s skyscrapers encircling its grounds, Boston Calling’s locale at City Hall Plaza offers the ideal urban festival vibe. Producers will enhance this environment with two performance stages, two beer gardens, a food pavilion comprised of food trucks and local food vendors, and world-class lighting and design. Music fans will be able to choose from 50 dishes and beers, including those from local food trucks and breweries.
