Land of Talk Releases Remastered Editions of Fan Favorites on Vinyl July 12th!
Land of Talk, the Montreal-based band led by Elizabeth Powell, has released both electric and acoustic versions of their live-set favorite “Magnetic Hill.” These tracks are part of the upcoming release, Applause Cheer Boo Hiss: The Definitive Edition, which is an expanded and remastered reissue of their debut EP. This edition will be available on vinyl for the first time on July 12, 2024, via Saddle Creek in the U.S. and Canada, and One Little Independent elsewhere.
The electric version of “Magnetic Hill” is a remastered track from the original 2006 EP, while the acoustic version, also remastered, was initially released on the limited edition 10-track L’Aventure Acoustique. Powell describes “Magnetic Hill” as a song about the illusion of relationships, comparing it to an optical illusion known as a magnetic hill, where a downhill slope appears to be uphill.
The Applause Cheer Boo Hiss: The Definitive Edition reissue includes bonus music across two LPs in a gatefold jacket with updated artwork. The first LP features a 10-song version of the original EP, plus five additional downloadable bonus tracks of live material and remixes. The second LP contains a remastered version of L’Aventure Acoustique, with five tracks mixed and engineered by Justin Vernon. It also includes acoustic versions of “Young Bridge,” “Some Are Lakes,” and a cover of Wintersleep’s “Weighty Ghost,” all available on vinyl for the first time. Powell expresses pride in the EP, stating, “If that’s my legacy, I’m good.”
Additionally, a compilation titled The EPs, featuring 2009’s Fun and Laughter EP and 2021’s Calming Night Partner EP, will be released on vinyl for the first time on July 12. Both Applause Cheer Boo Hiss: The Definitive Edition and The EPs are now available for pre-order.
