Liberating Dreamscapes: Ummagma – “Caravan”

Ummagma

“Caravan”

Compass

This amazing band has the most interesting, complex sound I’ve heard since Cocteau Twins.  Coming from the Yukon Territory and Ukraine, Ummagma is Alexander Kretov and Shauna McLarnon.  Now based in Ontario, the duo weaves their magic web with their own dreamscapes, drawing you into freedom, not captivity.  As their bio describes:

Compass is an album of grace and change, of familiarity and exploration, of emotion and euphoria, of sky-scraping cinematic highs and intimate and intriguing lows. This is the sound of a band allowing themselves to jump creative divides, to kick down musical barriers, and rip up the rule book or perhaps just ignore the fact that there ever was one in the first place.

However they create, the dreams are catching, and there is even a song sung in Ukrainian, to add a bit more mystery.  This album is on permanent play.
