LA Priest Unveils ‘La Fusion’ EP with Enchanting New Single ‘Apple’ Mixed by Alan Braxe
Following the release of “City Warm Heart,” LA Priest introduces his latest EP, La Fusion, highlighted by the groove-infused new single “Apple,” expertly mixed by French Touch icon Alan Braxe.
Lyrically, “Apple” transports listeners to an otherworldly realm, described by Sam as “a pep talk from an alien.” The track revisits the mystical and oceanic themes prominent in his 2023 album Fase Luna. “I aimed for it to be enlightening, even if the lyrics might seem obscure,” Sam explains.
The music video for “Apple” continues the thematic journey of “City Warm Heart,” featuring a mysterious figure clad in a velvet suit, dancing through a shadowy forest, seemingly mesmerized by the tune.
La Fusion was penned during the latter part of Eastgate’s stint in the Costa Rican jungle, a creative period that also spawned most of Fase Luna, and later recorded in his Welsh garden shed studio using his custom-built drum machine, GENE. While Fase Luna offered a raw portal to a fantastical realm, La Fusion was crafted during a reflective time of solitude with impending social re-engagement on the horizon.
“Fusion itself is a melding of realities,” Sam muses upon his return. “These songs, conceived in the jungle as external observations, were finalized in a more introspective urban setting.”
Known variably as Sam Dust, LA Priest, and L.A. Priest, Eastgate has forged a path as an innovative and elusive figure in music. Following his time with the now-disbanded Late Of The Pier and his esteemed collaboration with Connan Mockasin in Soft Hair, his solo endeavors continue to captivate. His previous album, Fase Luna, described by Brooklyn Vegan as “a chill trip,” was part of a fruitful year that included a tour across the UK and EU and supporting BRIT award-winning Jungle on their tours.
