The Vernon Spring Unveils “Other Tongues” Ahead of Under a Familiar Sun

London composer-producer Sam Beste, aka The Vernon Spring, drops “Other Tongues” featuring Brooklyn-based vocalist, producer, and astrophysics PhD candidate aden. This haunting, emotionally charged track—an ode to family in a fractured world—builds from lullaby-like melodies to a cacophony of distortion, where the refrain “there’s always someone who cares for you” fights to be heard.
The single follows “The Breadline” (feat. Max Porter) b/w “Requiem for Reem” and previews Beste’s upcoming album, Under a Familiar Sun, out May 9 via RVNG Intl. Known for collaborations with Amy Winehouse, Kendrick Lamar’s producer Sounwave, Beth Orton, Kano, MF DOOM, and more, Beste has been refining his singular sound since 2019—merging jazz, soul, ambient, and electronic elements into something entirely his own.
Crafted with producer Iko Niche, Under a Familiar Sun expands Beste’s sonic palette with hip-hop textures and sample-driven production while retaining his signature piano-driven style. A deeply personal project, Beste calls it “a love letter to my nuclear family,” balancing themes of domestic intimacy with a broader reflection on responsibility in an uncertain world.
