Wand Returns with Experimental Brilliance on New Album ‘Vertigo‘
Los Angeles rock band Wand returns with their new album, Vertigo, marking their debut as a quartet. Comprised of Evan Backer, Evan Burrows, Robbie Cody, and Cory Hanson, the band recorded the album in their own studio, capturing and collaging over 50 hours of sessions, many of which were improvised. The band took full control of the production and mixing process, while Backer arranged a sophisticated string and wind section featuring instruments like viola, cello, violin, contrabass, flute, trumpet, French horn, trombone, tuba, and saxophone, adding rich, layered textures to their sound. The lead single, “Smile,” released in May, sets the tone for the album, followed by “JJ” in June, showcasing their evolving sound. Vertigo, Wand’s first full-length album since 2019’s Laughing Matter, is a testament to their musical growth and innovative spirit, blending experimental improvisations with meticulously crafted arrangements.
