New York City’s electro-pop trio Wet is back with their captivating new single, “Double.” Produced and penned by vocalist Kelly Zutrau alongside longtime collaborator Buddy Ross (known for his work with Frank Ocean, Vampire Weekend, and Miley Cyrus), “Double” marks Wet’s first release since their 2021 album, *Letter Blue*.
Zutrau delves into the creation of “Double,” revealing, “In early 2022, I flew out to Portland to work with Buddy for a few weeks. Initially, we didn’t accomplish much—walking around, talking, playing cards, drinking beer, avoiding the studio. I felt uninspired. Then, on our first actual recording day, I found out I was pregnant. It was a shock, unplanned—I had spent the last decade preserving my youth, juggling multiple lives and paths in my mind. Suddenly, all those possibilities narrowed into something concrete and undeniable. Check out “Double” below:
“I felt overwhelming grief for these potential lives, now reduced to one. This new life inside me brought me back to reality, and I was terrified. ‘Double’ began to take shape that week. Buddy made a little bed in the studio for me, though I was only a month pregnant, and it was sweet. Now, when I hear the song, I’m transported back to that pivotal moment, where I was yanked from the fantasy I had been living in. ‘Double’ captures this transition, the merging of the many lives I had imagined into one or two real ones.”
Wet is set to perform at Rockaway Hotel in Queens, NY, on August 9th, ahead of a European tour in October. They will grace stages in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Stockholm, and Helsinki, with support from Jam City on select dates.
Since their 2014 debut EP via Neon Gold, Wet has carved a niche in the indie-pop scene. Their transition to Columbia Records brought us *Don’t You* (2016), praised by The New Yorker as “a harbinger of a pop future,” and *Still Run* (2018), which Billboard hailed as their “best project yet.” Their 2021 album, *Letter Blue*, released via AWAL, was followed by a notable feature on Fred again..’s *Actual Life 3* and collaborations with Ralphie Choo on “METAVERSE” and Rod Wave on *Nostalgia*.
