The title of the CD is taken from The Zabajaba Jungle by William Steiger. Like the book, ZABA is an evocation of exoticism, childhood adventure, and discovery. The CD is a mix of Apocalypse Now, Heart of Darkness, Island of Dr. Moreau, Roald Dahl, and Wind in the Willows, all around the theme of human interference with nature and the humanization of nature. With a sound that combines Charles Darwin with A Tribe Called Quest, Nina Simone with Nico, ZABA is a great record, a perfect balance of music and message. This is a perfect bookmark to “Constantine’s Dream” and “Amerigo” from Patti Smith’s Banga. PERFECT.
