Melodic Yet Powerful Protest: U.S. Girls – “Bosebud”

    “Rosebud”

    In A Poem Unlimited

U.S. Girls is American-born, Meg Remy’s musical moniker.   The Toronto-based, multi-instrumentalist loves for her music to be an example fiercely independent, modern brand of art-based, American feminism.  She deals with such sensitive subjects as empowerment, rape, abuse, and as her exploration of feminist themes relating to abuse and gender inequality become more clearly defined, her sound appears to evolve toward a mainstream, pop idiom.  BUT, her voice is so unique and powerful, U.S. Girls will never be mistaken as mainstream.  Think of her as the feminist counterpoint to Springsteen or Mellencamp, willing to take a stand and having the musical chops to back it up.  This is an artist to watch.  She is making a difference, rattling cages, and making great melodic music while doing so.
