Soulful Sensitivity: Meshell Ndeceocello – “Sensitivity”

Meshell Ndegeocello

“Sensitivity”

Ventriloquism

Always one of my favorite musicians, Meshell Ndegeocello has one of the best and most sensitive songs of 2018.  As Ndegeocello says about her new album:

This album was recorded in Los Angeles with the familiar family of partners and players that Meshell has worked with for years. Chris Bruce plays guitar, Abraham Rounds is on drums, Jebin Bruni co-produced the album and plays keys. S. Husky Huskolds engineered while Pete Min mixed and mastered. Lasting and collaborative relationships with her fellow musicians is among the most important parts of music making for Meshell, prompting her to say on more than one occasion: “Meshell Ndegeocello is a band”.

Not only does Ndegeocello have on of the greatest voices, she is also one hell of a bass player.  I saw her perform with John Mellencamp, and she blew me away.  I love the fact she works so well with her band, like Patti Smith with her band.  Her reworking of these songs are so tight, so beautiful, so intimate, ” lush and investigative, subversive and sublime.” Oh, and a portion of the profits from this album will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union.  Thank you, Meshell, for being you.  We need you.
