    “Ashtray Kisses”

    You Know Who You Are

God, here’s a song we can relate to:  “I need your ashtray kisses, even if it kills me”.  Haven’t we all been there.  Ryan Chernin is so perfect as he sings about a relationship that’s toxic, yet rather having that poison than going without.  As Chernin says:

“It’s me up there. It’s my pain, my happiness. It’s all out there and it’s very vulnerable.”
And you can hear the vulnerability in his songs. I really love this guy.  His mother claims he sang while imitating her as a child.  Chernin has that same laid-back style of Evan Dando of the Lemonheads, even dealing with difficult themes with style.  Chernin is breath of fresh air.

Ryan is an intriguing emerging talent. His songs are outside the box in very appealing ways. He touches a wide swath of society without preaching. How refreshing. I hope to hear a lot more from him.
