Back together for their first headlining tour in 7 years, The Summer Set did absolutely nothing short of making all of our early 2000’s pop-punk dreams come true on Wednesday, April 19 at the Recher theatre in Towson, MD.
What really stands out about this particular band, though, is their open representation of the LGBTQ community. Both the drummer, Jess, and lead guitarist, John, proudly wear their rainbow hearts on their sleeves. Over the last decade, the emo and pop-punk scene has rapidly progressed when it comes to acceptance of gay members. However, it continues to be a more than pleasant surprise when the community is represented by a beloved crowd pleaser, such as The Summer Set.
“If Taylor Swift can embark on an ‘Eras Tour’, so can we”, frontman Brian Dales stated in the midst of their set.
A fantastic combination of fan-favorites (“Lightning in a Bottle”, “Chelsea”, “Boomerang”), newer songs (“Teenagers”, “Under the Influence(r)”), and deep cuts (“Someone Like You”, “Jean Jacket”) make up the perfect 23-song set.
