LAKE Returns with ‘Bucolic Gone’ – Their Most Intimate and Sophisticated Album Yet

After a five-year break, LAKE returns with Bucolic Gone, an album that feels like a warm, sophisticated evolution of their dreamy, offbeat pop. Their tenth official release, and first on Don Giovanni Records, is a polished, intimate, and deeply reflective work—balancing groovy, slow-rolling rhythms with moments of quiet meditation and rich storytelling.

The album’s emotional weight is undeniable. “Blue Horizon” and “My Dear Brother” capture the grief of Ashley Eriksson’s personal loss, while “Love Is Deeper Now” and “Airplane” embrace healing and clarity. Throughout, the trio is backed by an impressive lineup of collaborators—Karl Blau’s shredding on “Ferrari,” Mark Buzard’s guitar textures, and Eric Vanderbuilt-Matthews’ intricate woodwinds all add depth to the band’s already lush arrangements. Nicholas Krgovich and Jenn Grant bring ethereal guest vocals, while Steve Moore (Earth, Sunn O))), Sufjan Stevens) contributes brass that weaves seamlessly into the album’s rich sonic fabric.

Moore’s production has never been sharper—his attention to detail in balancing soft, spacey atmospheres with crisp, textured instrumentation makes Bucolic Gone one of LAKE’s most sonically intricate albums yet. The record ends with a breezy, surfy reprise of their cult hit “No Wonder I”, a nod to their Adventure Time legacy and a reminder of their effortless ability to craft nostalgic, melancholic joy.

With 20 years of ethereal pop under their belt, LAKE proves that time away has only made their sound more refined, heartfelt, and expansive. Bucolic Gone isn’t just a return—it’s a testament to a band that continues to evolve without losing its soulful, off-kilter charm. Check it out below:
