Gelli Haha’s debut album, Switcheroo, is a burst of kaleidoscopic energy and a delightfully bizarre journey into a world she calls the “Gelliverse.” LA-based artist Angel Abaya flips from her folk roots to fully embrace carnival-esque synth-pop. With producer Sean Guerin (De Lux) at the helm, Switcheroo is an exuberant collision of dance beats, humor, and emotional undertones that sticks long after the music fades  .

From opening track “Funny Music”, which plays with clownish identity and sincerity, all the way to the epic oddity of “Piss Artist”, the album revels in absurdity without sacrificing craft. Songs like “Bounce House” sparkle with disco-pop bounce, while “Tiramisu” and “Spit” deliver tongue-twisting lyrical playfulness that feels like a toybox come to life.

Despite its irreverence, Switcheroo lands emotional punches. When Gelli confesses “I miss you” over an invigorating house groove, you’re hit with euphoric nostalgia. The closer, “Pluto is Not a Planet It’s a Restaurant”, beautifully caps the record with its dreamy yet whimsical spirit, reminding us that sincerity and silliness can coexist.

Critics are in agreement: Switcheroo is “riotously fun” and a dazzling, synth-filled dance record that firmly establishes Gelli Haha as a visionary artist unafraid to own her freak flag. With its Heady mix of party chaos and heartfelt confession, this album isn’t just pop; it’s pure performance art.

Verdict: A gloriously wired, beautifully strange debut firmly planted in pop innovation. Switcheroo is the kind of album that forces your head to nod and your feet to bounce; then makes you laugh, think, and feel.
