Glasgow’s Walt Disco is set to release their highly anticipated second album, The Warping, this Friday, June 14, via Lucky Number. The album, already praised by publications like Rolling Stone UK, The Line Of Best Fit, GLAAD, Punknews.org, Sweety High, Ghettoblaster Magazine, We All Want Someone To Shout For, and Since I Left You, features the latest single “Come Undone,” the deeply personal “Jocelyn,” the band’s ‘cynical disco banger’ “You Make Me Feel So Dumb,” and their wistful comeback single “Pearl.” To celebrate the release, the band has shared a behind-the-scenes ‘making of’ film today.

Next week, Walt Disco will headline the launch event for Charles Jeffrey’s ‘The Lore Of Loverboy’ exhibition, furthering their collaborative relationship with the renowned Scottish designer. Known for their spectacular live shows, praised by BrooklynVegan, Austin Chronicle, and Rolling Stone, the band will support electronic pop pioneers OMD on a North American tour this Fall.

Written across the Atlantic, from Los Angeles and Austin to Glasgow and London, The Warping represents a significant evolution for the band. The album features deeply personal and deft lyricism, exploring themes of envy, fear, joy, and hope. It delves into gender dysphoria and envy with radical honesty, viewing them as intertwined experiences. Elevating the cinematic glam of their debut, the album incorporates classically trained horns, woodwinds, and swelling string sections, adding a technically accomplished new level to the Walt Disco sound. While the foundation was laid during pre-album sessions at Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera’s studio, the songs were largely developed in collaboration. The Warping was co-produced by the band and Chris McCrory, with engineering by Chris D’Adda from The Vale studios, and features almost entirely analogue instrumentation.

Following the 2022 release of their debut album Unlearning, Walt Disco earned nominations for the Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award and AIM’s “Independent Album of the Year”. They have performed at major festivals such as Glastonbury, Latitude, Austin City Limits, and SXSW, headlined shows in NYC and LA, and supported HMLTD and Nation of Language.

Walt Disco also achieved several significant milestones, including opening for Simple Minds, Duran Duran, and Primal Scream on their Screamadelica Tour. Tilda Swinton named them her favorite new band. Lead singer Jocelyn Si narrated the short film Christopher at Sea, exploring queer identity and self-discovery, which was showcased at the Venice Film Festival and Cannes. The band also featured in a Christian Louboutin campaign challenging the gender binary in clothing and footwear and performed at a Louboutin event during Paris Fashion Week.
