Jack Wolter, best known for his work with Penelope Isles and as a touring guitarist for CMAT, steps into his own sonic world with Cubzoa, his new solo project. The debut single, “I Dreamed a Beach,” offers a mesmerizing glimpse into his forthcoming album, due later this year via Bella Union.

A shimmering blend of astral folk, electronica, and sun-damaged bedroom pop, the track feels both intimate and expansive. Wolter describes it as an attempt to capture the vivid yet fleeting nature of a dream—a peaceful cove, a familiar presence, a moment so real it lingers cruelly upon waking. Initially imagined as a stripped-back piece, the song evolved in the studio, with layers of strings, pianos, and saxophones treated to create waves of white noise that mirror the distortion of memory. The cellos, played by Jamie Bullers and Aenne Bladt, were recorded in an intimate, improvisational setting, adding warmth to the song’s hypnotic pull.

Produced at Bella Union Studios and mixed by Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck), Cubzoa’s debut LP promises a lush, textural experience, blurring the lines between folk, electronica, and dreamlike nostalgia. Ahead of the album’s release, Wolter will be opening for Anna B Savage on an 8-date UK tour, bringing his ethereal vision to the stage.

With “I Dreamed a Beach”, Cubzoa introduces a sound that’s deeply personal yet transportive, inviting listeners to get lost in its beautifully fractured world.
