London-based producer, DJ, and songwriter SONIKKU is back on Bella Union with his new double A-side single, Heatwave/Drowning. The first taste, “Heatwave,” is out now—an upbeat yet bittersweet summer anthem built around Balearic synths, shimmering percussion, and wistful vocals. It’s a song that feels like catching the last rays of sun before night falls, euphoric but tinged with longing.
Inspired by a road trip through Rhodes and late-night spins of Edward Maya’s “Stereo Love,” SONIKKU describes “Heatwave” as a “holiday song”—that track you stumble on in a beach bar and immediately want to take home as a souvenir. It’s both hedonistic and emotional, showcasing his talent for crafting genre-fluid club tracks that feel personal and universal at once.
This release follows a prolific year for SONIKKU, who dropped The World is Bleak but Sometimes Beautiful in January, remixed Ava Max, released the Kissing in the Strobe Light EP on Jaguar’s UTOPIA, and performed at Soho Pride and Keep Hush. His track record includes collaborations with the late SOPHIE, Partiboi69, Orchid, and Deto Blackamm, as well as releases on Steel City Dance Discs and Lobster Theremin.
With Heatwave/Drowning, SONIKKU solidifies his role as one of London’s most exciting electronic artists—someone who refuses to be boxed in, moving seamlessly between pop, club, and experimental worlds. The full EP arrives October 10, available digitally and on vinyl via Bella Union.
