    Lizzo

    “Humanize”

    Big Grrrl Small World

Lizzo is back, and I’m glad.  Bold and brassy one minute and devastatingly sincere the next, Lizzo is an artist that defies easy definition. She’s a gifted rapper, a hair-raising gospel singer, a razor-sharp wordsmith, a classically trained flautist, and a passionate advocate for feminism and black empowerment. She’s a hard-touring road warrior who is equally capable of winning over audiences in London, Paris, New York, and her hometown of Minneapolis. She’s hilarious. She’s sweet. But don’t be fooled: She’ll also eat you alive.  She is amazing.  She is not afraid of putting herself out there as herself.  If you don’t like what you see and hear, move on.  Me, I’m all behind Lizzo.  I love her voice, her words, her grit, her realism.  She is that good.  She also is actually saying something.  Listen to her.  Not since Queen Latifah has an artist been so real and comfortable, yet uncompromising.  Her new album, Big Grrrl Small World, is so much her own, she started her own label, BGSW, so she didn’t have to compromise herself.  Listen to her.  She is the next true diva.
