GoGo Penguin Return Reinvigorated With Bold New Album ‘NECESSARY FICTIONS’

GoGo Penguin are back—and stronger than ever. With their seventh studio album NECESSARY FICTIONS (out June 20), the Manchester trio dive headfirst into a new era of creativity, rediscovering their roots in rave and dance culture while pushing their sound into deeper, more daring territory. This is GoGo Penguin unmasked—authentic, self-assured, and sonically fearless.
The band’s new single “Fallowfield Loops” kicks things off with a driving, melancholic groove and a tribute to their hometown’s iconic Toast Rack building, captured in a striking video co-directed by pianist Chris Illingworth and bassist Nick Blacka.
Having come through grief, near-breakup, and lineup changes (welcoming powerhouse drummer Jon Scott), the band now hits their stride—leaning into modular synths, stripped-back storytelling, and their signature hybrid of jazz, classical, and electronic energy. For the first time, they also open the door to new collaborators, including Manchester Collective and British-Ugandan artist Daudi Matsiko.
“This is us. No masks, no filters,” says Blacka. “It’s raw, it’s real—and it grooves.”
NECESSARY FICTIONS is a bold evolution—and the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Stay tuned for U.S. tour dates dropping next week.
NECESSARY FICTIONS due out June 20. It’s a bold new chapter in the band’s evolution and represents a deep dive into identity, authenticity, and transformation. Pre-order now + watch video for “Fallowfield Loops” here.
