Raveena Announces New Album ‘Where the Butterflies Go in the Rain’ & Drops New Single ‘Lucky’

Raveena, lucky, r&b, pop, soul

Following the release of her single “Pluto,” Raveena announces her upcoming album, Where the Butterflies Go in the Rain, set to launch on June 14th under Empire. Alongside this announcement, she introduces “Lucky,” a single that draws from her early pop and R&B roots. The track captures the essence of the divine feminine, beginning with the gentle sound of muffled piano keys that mimic light reflecting on water. Its lyrics convey a serene confidence, while maintaining the emotional depth that characterizes Raveena’s songwriting. The accompanying video, directed by Isha Dipika Walia, features whimsical imagery of Raveena falling for a life-size caterpillar, inspired by Asian cinema icons Tran Anh Hung, Apichatpong Weerasethakul, and Wong Kar Wai, and incorporates subtle, relatable symbolism.

This track reflects a broader evolution in Raveena’s mental state over the past two years. Where the Butterflies Go in the Rain highlights music as a pivotal element in her personal and artistic development. With a newfound sense of clarity, the album explores themes of new love, maturity, and domestic tranquility that mirror her current state of peace. Discussing the album’s creative direction, Raveena shares, “Butterflies need to seek shelter during rain to prevent their wings from being damaged. That felt like a metaphor for my own life—seeking comfort and avoiding storms.” The album aims to evoke the simple joys of a summer road trip with loved ones.

Drawing influence from iconic artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Brandy, Bob Marley, Joni Mitchell, and Marvin Gaye, Where the Butterflies Go in the Rain captures the dual themes of beauty and loss. Raveena combines profound songwriting with traditional Indian instruments and nostalgic early 2000s pop, crafting her most authentic work yet.

Since her last album, Asha’s Awakening, Raveena has toured globally, marked her historic solo performance at Coachella as the first woman of Indian descent to do so, and navigated her Saturn Return, embracing a period of significant growth and serenity. Reflecting on her newest project, she notes, “This album felt right; it was all about intuition rather than the anxiety of needing to be perfect.”
