Far Caspian Unveils Autofiction Album & Heartfelt New Single “First Day”

Irish singer-songwriter Joel Johnston’s Far Caspian returns with Autofiction, due July 25 on his Tiny Library Records. Today he drops the bright, heartfelt lead single “First Day,” complete with a self-directed video. Driven by warm guitar riffs and uplifting percussion, the song captures the mutual support that carried Johnston and his partner through major life changes—from new jobs to Crohn’s-disease infusions—with a reminder that, no matter how uncertain the path, they’ve always “got each other’s backs.”
On Autofiction, Johnston sheds cryptic lyrics in favor of diaristic honesty, tackling mental-health struggles, self-forgiveness, and gratitude with his most vulnerable vocals yet. Recorded, produced, mixed, and played entirely in his Leeds studio, the album channels joy and spontaneity—Joel’s motto was simple: “If I’m enjoying it now, it’s good enough.”
