Lyrical Truth: NEEDTOBREATHE – “Cages”

NEEDTOBREATHE

“Cages”

Hard Love

NEEDTOBREATHE are an amazingly literate and musical band from Charleston, SC.  Comprised of Bear Rinehart- Guitar, Lead Vocals;  Bo Rinehart- Guitar, BGV’s;  Seth Bolt- Bass, BGV’s; and  Josh Lovelace – Keys, BGV’s, this quartet weaves musical strands that just echo with honesty and beauty.  One of the many things that is so wonderful about this band is the variety of causes they support.  You have got to visit their website to see what these guys do.  They are just amazing.  They are back in the studio already (in between tour stops) to start their new record.  They are that devoted to their fans.

Below are the lyrics for “Cages”.  Honest rock n roll.

I’m a broke nose fighter
I’m a loose lip liar
Searching for the edge of darkness
But all I get is just tired
I went looking for attention
In all the wrong places
I was needing a redemption
And all I got was just cages

If I’m being real honest
I’m fighting uphill battles
I can’t seem to find the right light
Cause I’ve been living in the shadows
I went looking for attention
In all the wrong places
I was seeking recognition
And all I got was just cages

Looking back on all the wreckage
All I see is their faces
How many hearts have I broken
And tell me are they still breaking
I went looking for attention
In all the wrong places
I was needing a redemption
To get me out of these cages

I had a bright white dream
It was pulling on me
Till I was almost dead
Here in these cages

There’s a window in this cage I’m in
I can see what kind of man I’ve been
I’m in a prison for a man gone wrong
But I’ll find a future this is not my home

We’re a band of outsiders
Spent our whole life chasing
Trying to climb a little higher
But the high just faded
We went looking for attention
In all the wrong places
We were needing a redemption
But all we got were just cages
