On this day in 1987 CBS music had its largest pre-order in history for an album with Michael Jackson’s ‘Bad”. This was his follow up to the greatest selling album of all time ‘Thriller’. CBS shipped 2.25 million records to stores around the country and while ‘Bad’ got critical acclaim, and sold over 13 million copies, it (and no other album since) has come close to the accolades that ‘Thriller’ did, selling over 35 million copies in the US and over 65 million worldwide, winning a record 8 Grammy’s including Album of the Year.
