Franc Moody Unleash New Era with “Chewing The Fat” and Electrifying Single “Driving On The Wrong Side Of The Road”
Franc Moody, the soulful disco-electronica duo led by Ned Franc and Jon Moody, are back with their third studio album, Chewing The Fat, set for release on March 7, 2025, under their new label Night Time Stories. The announcement arrives with the infectious new single “Driving On The Wrong Side Of The Road,” an exuberant track that signals a bold sonic shift for the duo.
Reflecting on the new release, Franc Moody describe the single as a leap into uncharted territory. They channeled their funk roots while recording much of the album at Los Angeles’ 64 Sounds, tearing up their old playbook to embrace new textures and sounds. This playful rebellion is palpable in the music, which oscillates between the grit of 1950s jump blues and the cosmic groove of modern electronic pioneers like Todd Terje and Lindstrøm.
The album finds the duo at a turning point. Following an underwhelming set at Glastonbury and personal challenges, Franc Moody decided to rebuild from the ground up. Their creative rebirth draws inspiration from live performances by LCD Soundsystem and Massive Attack, whose raw, evocative stage presence reignited their artistic drive.
Their revamped sound features a fusion of drum machines with live percussion, peppered with quirky tones from Russian synthesizers and rare analog equipment—borrowed from Damon Albarn’s collection at their studio space. This shift results in a sound that is less disco flash and more gritty, grounded grunge.
With Chewing The Fat, Franc Moody trade sleek Corvette curves for the rugged charm of a Hindustan Ambassador, showing that reinvention doesn’t mean abandoning danceable grooves—it just means adding a bit more edge. As they step into this new chapter, the duo invites listeners to dance with both heart and grit, fully embracing the unpredictable ride ahead.
